AIS-SARTs and Man Over Board Devices

When performing AIS-SART and MOB tests, always use the test mode on the beacon. Doing so, the beacon will radiate an AIS message with the text “AIS TEST” along with the beacon’s actual position and other AIS data. By receiving and displaying these messages the test box confirms that the AIS SART is working all right.

If the beacon is accidentally activated in the emergency transmission mode, it will radiate the text  “AIS ACTIVE”. This will alert nearby ships and coast stations. Then, the device should be turned off at once and the false alert reported to the nearest coast guard station or Search and Rescue centre.
